Sheriff Sid Gautreaux Announces Plans for Next Term

Updated: Apr 22, 2023

“Through the grace of God and the support of community members like yourself, I have been honored to serve as East Baton Rouge Sheriff for more than 15 years,” Sheriff Gautreaux said. “We have focused our efforts not only on preventing and solving crimes, but also on building trust and strengthening our relationships with those we serve. I pledge that we will continue to make advancements in technology, services, training, security and outreach. Working closely with our community partners, we will continue to adapt, overcome and combat criminal activity while also listening, learning and leaning on one another to form and improve relationships.”

During his tenure, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office has made great strides to provide new services to the public, often in more efficient and convenient ways; and made major advancements in enforcement, training, outreach, and rehabilitation. Accomplishments include:

- Enhanced and strengthened recruiting through increased pay and benefits, improved technology, equipment and facilities. As a result, the office has more deputies on the streets and more detectives to solve crimes.

- Increased investigative and enforcement capabilities through the creation of new specialized divisions including Homicide, K-9, Aviation and Community Policing.

- Reduced violent crime by increasing uniform patrol deputies and opening additional substations to better allocate resources across the parish.

- Worked to slow the revolving door of incarceration through rehabilitation programs, a faith-based wing and a library.

- Achieved unprecedented interoperability among local, state and federal agencies through task forces and initiatives that combat crime-- including human trafficking and drug cartels-- regardless of jurisdiction.

“I am incredibly grateful for the men and women that serve this agency, our parish and our community,” Gautreaux said. “I am also grateful to serve a community made up of so many dedicated and caring residents. Together, we have accomplished so much, but there is much left to do. For this reason, I am seeking re-election in the fall of 2023. I am humbly asking for your continued support as your Sheriff. I look to the future with hope and faith as we progress in keeping our parish stronger, safer and better together!”
